SummerShift is an energy saving program that aims to reduce the risk of outages this summer resulting from the limited availability of natural gas from the Aliso Canyon Natural Gas Storage Facility. Offered from June through September 2017 for large commercial and industrial customers, SummerShift will provide an incentive per kilowatt (kW) for shifting your energy use away from high demand, peak periods to off-peak periods.

 Benefits

  • Receive significant incentives (through a bill credit) of $10 per kW for energy saved or shifted away from the peak period
  • Avoid cost impacts and inconveniences of electrical service interruptions
  • Partner with LADWP in preventing power outages this summer affecting all customers

How It Works

  • Receive the incentive for the amount of electricity (per kW) shifted or reduced between the hours of 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays in June, July, August, and September 2017
  • Available for any Schedule A-2 or A-3 customers with a demand greater than 250kW and a smart meter that will measure the amount of energy shifted or reduced
  • Enter contract with LADWP for the period of energy saving

Options for Shifting Energy Use

Customers have a number of options to reduce or shift their energy use, including:

  • Shift work schedules two hours earlier or later
  • Shift the hours of production or operation two hours earlier or later
  • Adjust thermostats, reduce lighting, and reduce AC usage from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Not sure what you can do? LADWP staff will visit customers’ site and recommend ways to reduce and shift electric use. LADWP also can provide access to Web-based tools that measure daily energy use.
